LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) Pride Month is celebrated in June to commemorate the Stonewall Rebellion that began on June 28, 1969. On that night, police in Greenwich Village (NYC) raided the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar. Instead of acquiescing, patrons of the Stonewall Inn fought back. For the next three days, there were violent protests and demonstrations. That was the birth of the civil rights movement for the LGBT community.PBS has a wonderful collection of films and short stories about the experiences of people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender. One of the films we especially like is:The New Black, a documentary focusing specifically on the struggle of Maryland’s African-American community with gay rights issues, particularly the recent movement for same-sex marriage. Many of you know, Bob and I were passionately involved in the movement for same-sex marriage. Whether gay or straight, couples have similar conflicts about money, sex, infidelity.People often wonder how the relationships and marriages of gay couples compare with those of straight couples. Dr. John Gottman, world-renowned expert on marriage and divorce and best-selling author of The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work, provides insight on that very question.Check out the results of his 12-year study on What Makes Same-Sex Marriages Succeed or Fail?We would love to hear your thoughts about how you connect and keep your relationship healthy on our Facebook page.Image Copyright Wavebreak Media Ltd
